Pompeston Creek Watershed MapWhat is a Watershed?

A watershed is the area of land that drains into a particular body of water such as a stream, river, lake, or estuary exness. It is separated from other watersheds by high points such as hills.

The Pompeston Creek watershed is an 8 square mile area that drains parts of Moorestown, Cinnaminson, Delran, and Riverton. The watershed is home to many people and a large variety of wildlife. Protecting water quality in the creek benefits both the people and animals that live here.

When it rains, pollutants from our homes, lawns, businesses, industries, parking lots, and roads run off into storm drains and then directly into the creek. (This type of pollution is called “nonpoint source pollution”; these pollutants include fertilizers, pesticides, pet waste, grass clippings, oil, sediment, road salt, trash, and others). The creek then empties into the Delaware River, a major source of our drinking water supply.
